The evidence beneath the English
Every consequential choice
leaves a record.
The published library was developed through direct Greek analysis, lexical work, and manuscript comparison. Where surviving witnesses materially disagree, the competing Greek readings and their effect on English remain open to the reader.

Textual basis
SBL Greek New Testament
Edited by Michael W. Holmes. The project's standardized, publicly inspectable Greek reference edition. It is not presented as retroactive proof that every existing chapter originated from one uniform printed edition.
This is an honest reference claim, not a retroactive claim that all completed work began from one uniform printed edition. Material manuscript forks remain independently documented at the reading they affect.

ἡ μὲν οὖν ἐκκλησία ... / αἱ ... ἐκκλησίαι
Does Luke describe one regional assembly or multiple assemblies?
The earliest recoverable reading uses the singular assembly across Judea, Galilee, and Samaria; much of the later tradition changes it to the plural assemblies.
Why this default
The singular is default because it portrays the geographically dispersed community as one assembly and is the harder form that later copyists could naturally regularize into plural “assemblies.”
Evidence
ExternalThe singular is supported by P74, א, A, B, C and other early witnesses; the plural appears broadly in the later tradition.
InternalThe singular is the more difficult expression because it portrays one assembly distributed across three regions; scribes could naturally regularize it to a geographical plural.
