How should the word’s dwelling among us be rendered?
The verb comes from skēnē, ‘tent.’ It means to pitch a tent or take up dwelling and carries an audible tabernacle resonance.
Why this default
“Tented” is default because eskēnoō is built on skēnē, “tent,” preserving the concrete dwelling image and its tabernacle resonance. “Dwelt” smooths away that image; “tabernacled” makes the scriptural association more explicit than the verb itself requires.
