This is an honest reference claim, not a retroactive claim that all completed work began from one uniform printed edition. Material manuscript forks remain independently documented at the reading they affect.

The words ‘before me’ are ancient but disputed. P66 and several major codices include them; P75 and other witnesses omit them.

The included phrase is the working default because it is early and explains the sharp temporal comparison, but the equally ancient shorter form remains fully exposed.
