Tithēmi literally means place or set. Here it can be rendered appointed, placed, or established for a fruit-bearing purpose.
Why this default
‘Appointed you’ is default because the following purpose clauses show that Jesus’ placing of the disciples is a commissioning to go, bear fruit, and have that fruit remain. ‘Placed’ retains the literal breadth of ethēka, while ‘set in place’ foregrounds position more than purpose.
