Edited by Michael W. Holmes. The project's standardized, publicly inspectable Greek reference edition. It is not presented as retroactive proof that every existing chapter originated from one uniform printed edition.
This is an honest reference claim, not a retroactive claim that all completed work began from one uniform printed edition. Material manuscript forks remain independently documented at the reading they affect.

Is verse 7 a command to ask or a prediction that they will ask?
The textual fork changes the force of the promise after remaining: Jesus either directs the disciples to ask or predicts that they will ask, with fulfillment following.
Why this default
The imperative is default because it has early, diverse support and fits the following promise. The future form is a small and natural smoothing of the verb.

InternalOnly a vowel distinguishes the forms; changing a command into a prediction smooths the sequence after the conditional.
