How does the spirit of truth come from the Father?
Ekporeuetai means goes out or proceeds. The phrase later carried major doctrinal weight, but the immediate sentence describes the witness Jesus sends from the Father.
Why this default
‘Proceeds from the Father’ is default because it maps ekporeuetai as movement out from a source while keeping this clause distinct from Jesus’ separate promise to send the helper. ‘Goes out’ is plainer English, while ‘flows forth’ adds source imagery not present in the verb itself.
