Why this default
‘The true vine’ is default because it preserves both repeated articles and John’s recurring alēthinos language for what is genuine and fully corresponds to its name. ‘Real’ and ‘genuine’ clarify part of that force, but lose the chapter’s link to John’s wider vocabulary.
