The Father’s own affection grounds the disciples’ access: their love for Jesus and trust in his divine origin correspond to the Father’s direct love for them.
Why this default
‘The Father himself loves you’ is default because modern ‘likes’ understates the personal affection carried by phileō, and the emphatic autos is preserved by ‘himself.’ ‘Is fond of you’ exposes the affectionate nuance but sounds less direct and durable in this promise.
