Pilate begins the Roman proceeding by requiring the accusers to state the formal case they are presenting against Jesus.
Why this default
‘What accusation do you bring against this man?’ is default because it retains katēgoria, the legal carrying verb pherete, and the human referent. ‘What charge are you bringing?’ is idiomatic legal English but collapses the noun–verb wording.
