How should Pilate’s word order sound?
Pilate directly tests the political accusation by asking Jesus whether the title king of the Judeans applies to him.
Why this default
‘You are the king of the Judeans?’ is default because it preserves the emphatic opening pronoun and the Greek statement-order beneath Pilate’s question. Standard English inversion is smoother, but loses the incredulous emphasis; ancient manuscripts do not supply modern question punctuation.
