How should Jesus’s greeting sound?
The phrase literally says ‘peace to you’ and functions as both greeting and pronouncement; hymin is plural.
Why this default
‘Peace to you all’ is default because it follows the greeting’s literal structure and makes the plural hymin audible. ‘Peace be with you’ is natural traditional English, while ‘may peace rest’ expands the greeting into an explicit wish.
