How should the setting be named?
John calls the Galilean lake the Sea of Tiberias, using the Roman-era city name also found in chapter 6.
Why this default
‘At the Sea of Tiberias’ is default because it preserves the geographical name John himself uses here and in chapter 6. ‘Sea of Galilee’ gives the familiar alternate name, while ‘Lake Tiberias’ modernizes the physical description but changes the narrative’s thalassa wording.
