How should the setting be named?
The closing appearance returns the disciples to the Galilean lake and frames the fishing scene by the Roman-era name associated with Tiberias.
Why this default
‘At the Sea of Tiberias’ is default because it preserves the geographical name John himself uses here and in chapter 6. ‘Sea of Galilee’ gives the familiar alternate name, while ‘Lake Tiberias’ modernizes the physical description but changes the narrative’s thalassa wording.
