What kind of freedom does the truth make?
The freedom claim provokes an appeal to Abrahamic descent and a denial of slavery; Jesus answers by contrasting slavery to sin with the Son’s enduring place in the household.
Why this default
“Free” is default because it can preserve the eleutheroō/eleutheros word-family across “the truth will free you” and “you will truly be free.” “Set free” is more idiomatic in the verb position, while “liberate” foregrounds release but weakens the repeated lexical form.
