How directly are the disciples commissioned as witnesses?
Some early witnesses omit 'are,' producing the compressed phrase 'you—witnesses of these things'; the sense remains a direct identification.
Why this default
“You are witnesses” is default because the explicit copula gives natural English and is broadly attested, while early witnesses also preserve a compressed nominal clause.
