What tone does Jesus use with the cleansed man?
The verb can convey stern warning, indignation, or an audible snort. English tends to soften it.
Why this default
‘Sternly warning him’ is the working default because embrimēsamenos carries force—stern charge, indignation, or even a snorting sound—before Jesus sends the man away. ‘Showing indignation’ decides the emotion more specifically than the participle permits, while a simple ‘charged’ can understate its intensity.
