Who is ‘the lord’ of the colt?
Kyrios can mean Lord, master, or owner. The pronoun can attach to the animal, while the narrative naturally lets Jesus speak with authority.
Why this default
‘The Lord has need of it’ is the working default because kyrios naturally carries titular force in Jesus’s authoritative instruction, while the pronoun still refers to the colt. ‘Its master’ is grammatically possible but resolves the deliberate ambiguity toward ordinary ownership.
