For whom is the temple meant to be a house of prayer?
Ethnē can mean nations or Gentiles. Isaiah’s quotation emphasizes the universal reach of the house.
Why this default
‘For all the nations’ is default because it preserves ethne and the universal scope of Isaiah’s quotation without reducing the phrase to a Jewish–Gentile contrast. ‘All peoples’ is natural and inclusive but obscures the quotation’s recurring nations-language.
