What did the Sadducees deny?
Anastasis literally means standing up again and became the established term for resurrection.
Why this default
‘There is no resurrection’ is default because anastasis is the established term for the disputed hope while still deriving from standing up again. Replacing it with a verbal paraphrase exposes the image but can make the Sadducees’ doctrinal position sound less recognizable.
