Why this default
‘Let the reader understand’ is default because the singular participle directly addresses the person reading the text, possibly aloud, and no hearer is grammatically named. ‘Take notice’ weakens noeito’s call for comprehension; ‘discern’ adds a more specialized interpretive action.
