What did Pilate grant to Joseph?
Ptōma is a dead body or corpse, more explicit than the preceding sōma, ‘body.’
Why this default
‘The corpse’ is default because ptoma explicitly denotes a dead body and preserves Mark’s shift from Joseph’s request for the soma to Pilate’s grant of the ptoma. Repeating ‘body’ erases that lexical distinction; ‘remains’ softens the physical term.
