How should the forgiveness pronouncement sound?
The passive is present: the sins are being released from the man. The agent is not named in the grammar.
Why this default
‘Your sins are forgiven’ is default because it preserves the present passive and leaves its agent unstated, as the Greek does. ‘Released’ exposes the verb’s underlying image but is less idiomatic in this pronouncement.
