What does Jesus do with the Twelve?
Poieō literally says he ‘made twelve’; in this setting it means appointed or constituted them as a group.
Why this default
‘He made twelve’ is default because it leaves Mark’s striking use of poieō visible at the group’s constitution. ‘Appointed’ accurately expresses the institutional function but silently resolves the marked wording into a conventional office-making verb.
