The shorter form names his mother and brothers. A substantial ancient stream adds his sisters here, likely influenced by the three-part family saying that follows.
Why this default
The shorter wording is default because of strong early support. Sisters may have entered here from Jesus’s immediately following three-part statement: brother, sister, and mother.
