Why this default
‘We are being destroyed’ is default because it keeps apollymi’s middle-passive form and stronger ruin-language visible. ‘We are perishing’ is idiomatic and immediate; ‘we are drowning’ accurately infers the scene but supplies a verb Mark does not use.
