Mark depicts a bond or fastening of the tongue being loosened, not merely a generic recovery of speech.
Why this default
‘The bond of his tongue was loosened’ is default because it retains both desmos’s fastening image and lyō’s release. ‘His speech was restored’ gives the result naturally but eliminates the physical metaphor Mark uses to describe it.
