Jesus imagines acquiring the entire world and weighs that apparent profit against the loss of one’s own life.
Why this default
‘Gain the whole world’ is default because it retains kerdaino’s compact commercial metaphor and the total scope of kosmon holon. ‘Profit by acquiring’ explains the transaction but turns one vivid verb into an interpretive phrase; ‘possess’ loses the accounting language.
