The evidence beneath the English
Every consequential choice
leaves a record.
John, Mark, Matthew, and Luke were developed through direct Greek analysis, lexical work, and manuscript comparison. Where surviving witnesses materially disagree, the competing Greek readings and their effect on English remain open to the reader.

Textual basis
SBL Greek New Testament
Edited by Michael W. Holmes. The project's standardized, publicly inspectable Greek reference edition. It is not presented as retroactive proof that every existing chapter originated from one uniform printed edition.
This is an honest reference claim, not a retroactive claim that all completed work began from one uniform printed edition. Material manuscript forks remain independently documented at the reading they affect.
Translation record
Matthew 6
matthew.6.mt6Kingdom
τὴν βασιλείαν [τοῦ θεοῦ] καὶ τὴν δικαιοσύνην αὐτοῦ
Does the command say ‘his kingdom’ or ‘the kingdom of God’?
The witnesses vary in both the kingdom phrase and its pronoun. The compact ‘his kingdom and his righteousness’ is strongly supported; ‘kingdom of God’ makes the referent explicit.
Why this default
‘His kingdom and his righteousness’ is default because it is compact, strongly attested, and keeps the two coordinated objects under one divine referent. Explicit ‘of God’ and shorter forms clarify or reshape that relationship.
Evidence
ExternalThe principal early stream supports ‘the kingdom and his righteousness,’ with witnesses divided over an explicit ‘of God’ or possessive pronoun after kingdom; later tradition strongly favors ‘kingdom of God.’
InternalCopyists could readily add ‘of God’ to prevent an isolated ‘the kingdom’ or adjust pronouns for parallel balance. The variants are small and recurrent, so confidence is medium.
