Hēlikia can mean bodily stature or span of life; pēchys is literally a cubit. Adding a cubit fits height mechanically, while adding even a short span fits the argument about life.
Why this default
‘Add one cubit to the span of life’ is the working default because the surrounding argument concerns preserving life and adding a cubit to height would be enormous rather than slight.
